Slavery Descendants Had a Free Ticket Home

There were states before the civil war that freed slaves. Anyone ever hear of Liberia? Think about the name, liberty come to mind? In about circa 1820 this was and is Americas interest in Africa, to set up a country were those free men, slaves, could go back to the homeland if they so chose. There was a problem however, this meant that these free slaves had to want to go back to Africa. This also meant that they had to believe that they would be better off in “free Africa” than a country that still had slavery. They had to believe that they would be better off in any one of many factors, slavery, standard of living, education, housing, etc. What is funny is that only an estimated 528 free slaves could be convinced that they would be better off in Africa, the rest decided that it was better for them and their family to stay in a pro-slave country like America. This seriously deflates the reparation issue.

Thus ends my fun and games with black history month, I hope you enjoyed it.
