A Long Hard Day
Sorry folks for no original post today but my day along with so many others started at about 06:30 and went until 17:00. For others it started as early as 02:00 and di not end until about 22:00 or later. The funeral was draining in many ways, thank God the weather held out. I was fortunate enough to run into about 70 friends and acquaintances from several Canadian fire companies and we keep each other company during some of the down time.
The wakes and funerals for Lt. Charles W. “Chip” McCarthy Jr. and Firefighter Jonathan S. Croom were numbers 9 and 10 for LODD’s (Line Of Duty Deaths) that I have attended in 28 years. It never gets any easier, especially now that those who gave all are now younger than me and this is not likely to change.
They estimate that about 6,000 of us showed up and I do not think that is too bad for a work day and declining economy making it more of a hardship to take off of work and the travel expenses.
It was a beautiful day and ceremony.
Again GODSPEED Lt. Charles W. “Chip” McCarthy Jr. and Firefighter Jonathan S. Croom.
